Crowds have been gathering around the Humboldt Park lagoon hoping to catch a glimpse of the alligator that has reportedly been lurking in the water. Confirmed to be a 4-foot American alligator, the reptile has been taking up residence in the popular Chicago lagoon for at least three days. Animal Control has brought in a reptile specialist dubbed “Gator Bob” to set up traps for the creature so that it can be relocated to the nearest zoo. Gator Bob speculates that the alligator was picked up elsewhere since American alligators are illegal in Illinois. The alligator specialist said the owner likely got scared and thought dumping the animal in the lagoon was best. The alligator was first spotted by photographer Rencie Horst-Ruiz who said she was at the Humboldt Park Lagoon around 6:30 am. She snapped photos of the animal and reported it to the Illinois Conservation Police and Animal Care and Control who responded to the scene hours later. For now, the alligator continues to evade capture. “Ideally a net would be the best thing because it’s safe and good for him,” Gator Bob said. “But if I have to grab him, I will. We have experience dealing with these animals. I have all of my fingers.” Read more about the article by clicking <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https
