The contract of Magnum Construction Management (MCM), formerly known as Munilla Construction Management, has been extended a unanimous vote from the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners. MCM was the general contractor for the Florida International University pedestrian bridge, which collapsed in 2018, killing six and injuring eight others. MCM’s contract was extended by one-and-a-half years for construction services throughout the county’s airport system. This is the fourth extension to a $50 million contract that Miami-Dade awarded the contractor in December 2011. Since then, Miami-Dade county commissioners have continued to extend the company’s contract to ensure continuity of services. The contract amount increased by $79.8 million to almost $130 million, covering most projects at Miami International Airport. There was no discussion around the decision to extend the contract. However, the county has issued a Request for Qualification for a replacement contractor, according to a memo prepared by the staff. For the county’s convenience, Miami-Dade has the right to terminate MCM’s contract if a new contractor is selected before MCM’s contract expires. Read the article here. Check out some
